Arizona State University (ASU) partnered with our district through a grant to provide the opportunity to highly qualified district teachers to obtain a Master’s Degree. The master’s programs available to employees will be in Reading, Math, Science, as well as a Reading Endorsement. The classes are prepaid by the ASU grant and are offered locally at Southwest Jr. High School.
Approximately 31 district employees have taken advantage of this program scheduled for the fall semester.
The district has a tuition reimbursement program in place for Emergency Certified Teachers, those teachers who hold a bachelor’s degree in another area.
Emergency Certified Teachers have the opportunity to take courses at any university to complete the Arizona Department of Education’s requirements to become fully certified.
The district reimburses these teachers after they show proof of course completion.
The future plans are to have enough funds in the ASU grant for instructional assistants to become certified teachers.
